Open for Submissions

Hello. It's been a minute since I've done this – I'm excited to announce that I am accepting unsolicited submissions.

Queries are the heart and soul of what we do as agents and I am absolutely thrilled by the idea of digging into some again. My workload and personal life outside of work have simply not given me the bandwidth to consider any new work for quite some time, but I find myself in a more settled place and market conditions turning in a particular direction that make this feel like a very opportune time to start taking on a few new clients.

Please feel free to spread the word wide and far. Referrals are always welcome from friends and colleagues but the whole point of this is to find the voices I never would have stumbled across any other way. I'm not sure how long I'll keep the doors open, but I find myself looking for a couple very specific things. I can't wait to see what you have been working on...

Instructions are below and the most up to date information will always be available here: https://www.dongwonsong.com/submission-guidelines

Submission Guidelines:

Please send an email to queries@dongwonsong.com with your submission. Anything sent to any other email will not be considered or responded to. Your query should include:

  • Title, word count, and genre
  • A brief pitch
  • Your bio
  • Ten sample pages pasted directly into the body of the email

What I am looking for:

I am currently considering submissions for Adult Epic Fantasy and Horror only at this time. If your submission is not in these categories, please refrain from sending until a future, more appropriate time.

More specifically I am interested in:

  • Epic fantasy with a deep interest in character, rich worldbuilding, a sense of vast scale, and a commitment to consequence. I am not looking for heroic adventure fantasy at this time. The distinction is granular and open to interpretation, but use your best judgment.
    • Examples: Joe Abercrombie’s The Devils, Robert Jackson Bennett’s The Tainted Cup, Fonda Lee’s Jade City, and Vajra Chandrasekera’s Saint of Bright Doors.
  • Horror with a strong point of view, a willingness to engage with reality of the world around us, and thoughts about what it takes to survive difficult times. Particularly horror from BIPOC, Trans, and Queer voices.
    • Examples: Jade Song’s Chlorine, Sarah Gailey’s Just Like Home, and Chuck Tingle’s Camp Damascus.

If I have personally invited you to submit or have a referral from a trusted contact of mine, then you are free to submit in any category.
